Position Announcements

The LaVale Volunteer Rescue Squad, Inc. seeks applicants for full-time and part-time Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) Clinicians.  These positions are responsible for providing basic and advanced life support emergency medical services to ill or injured persons. Additional responsibilities include driving an ambulance; communicating with the dispatch center, patients, family members, and other health care professionals; and conducting equipment inspections and other station duties as assigned. Basic Life Support (BLS) Clinician

Job Type:   Full-Time and Part-Time

Salary:       $17.00 / hour

Shifts:        24-hours (0600 - 0600). Alternative shifts may be available based on staffing needs.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents.
  • Operate emergency vehicles.
  • Completion of appropriate paperwork.
  • Complete various station duties.
  • Other duties a assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Maryland Licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) (or ability to obtain reciprocity).
  • Current CPR Certification.
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness (MFRI or equivalent).
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator (MFRI or equivalent) (required within 1 year).
  • Valid Class C Driver's License.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC).
  • Geriatric Emergency Medical Services (GEMS).
  • Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).

Advanced Life Support (ALS) Clinician

 Job Type:   Full-Time and Part-TimeSalary:       $21.00 / hourShifts:        24-hours (0600 - 0600). Alternative shifts may be available based on staffing needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents.
  • Operate emergency vehicles.
  • Completion of appropriate paperwork.
  • Complete various station duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Maryland Licensed Cardiac Rescue Technician (CRT) or Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) (or ability to obtain reciprocity).
  • Allegany County ALS Clinician Clearance (or ability to obtain clearance).
  • Current CPR Certification.
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness (MFRI or equivalent).
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator (MFRI or equivalent) (required within 1 year).
  • Valid Class C Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Geriatric Emergency Medical Services (GEMS).
  • Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).

What to Expect

After submitting your application and resume, our team will review your qualifications. If select, you'll be invited to an interview. The interview gives us a chance to learn more about your experience and gives you the opportunity to ask questions and tour our station.

Shifts are scheduled monthly. We work with our clinicians to accommodate availability while ensuring coverage. Full-time positions typically work two 24-hours shifts per week.


Yes. You must be able to obtain Maryland reciprocity through MIEMSS. We recommend starting the reciprocity process before or shortly after applying. 


We support our clinicians' professional growth. BLS clinicians interested in advancing to ALS may be eligible for flexible scheduling to attend paramedic school. 


A wide variety of training opportunities are also made available through the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, typically at no cost to the student.


Yes. All newly hired clinicians are scheduled as a third person with an experienced crew for a minimum of two shifts for orientation to our equipment and operations.
